Biography
“I am attempting to make objects of beauty and contemplation, and also to build forms that are capable of unpredictability. Movement is compelling. People are drawn to unpredictable movement. My sculptures move, often manipulated by the viewer, and in this way, both movement and random human intervention become employed as “material” in the work”.
Etienne has exhibited extensively over the years and has work in many public and private collections. His works include the fountain sculpture at South African Breweries visitors’ centre in Newlands, and the sculpture for Mediterranean Shipping Company head office in Durban. He is a keen sailor and when he is not working, likes to be sailing with his family on his home-built boat, ‘Jabberwock’ in ‘a lot of wind’.
